The challenges facing NHS general practice
General practice is stretched, and the everyday running of a practice shouldn't add to the load. NHS IT support services should help GP practices reclaim clinical space, keep print reliable, and reduce the burden of managing multiple IT suppliers with no single owner. ARC takes that off your plate with one partner, clear ownership, and support that fits how your practice actually operates.
-
Records rooms are taking up space that could be clinical space
Paper records fill rooms that could be consulting rooms, waiting areas or staff space. Finding a single file takes longer than it should, and the admin burden sits with an already stretched team.It takes an average of 37 minutes to locate a single paper record. ARC reclaims that space and makes records fast to retrieve.
-
When print is managed ad hoc, small issues become daily disruption
A mix of devices, inconsistent toner ordering and slow break-fix support means printers fail when the practice is busiest, and someone on the team ends up chasing suppliers instead of supporting patients. When a printer fails mid-session, prescriptions and patient letters stall, and the disruption lands on staff who are already stretched.
-
Multiple suppliers, no single owner
Print, records and IT are often handled by separate suppliers with separate contracts, so when something goes wrong, everyone points elsewhere and the practice does the chasing. It also leaves gaps in who is watching for cyber risk. With no single owner, problems fall between suppliers, and the practice absorbs the delay, the chasing, and the risk of something being missed.
ARC was built around the way NHS general practice actually works
ARC's NHS IT support services are built around how primary care actually runs. Our engineers know the landscape before they arrive, so delivery is faster, disruption is lower, and support fits how your practice operates rather than treating it like a generic office network.
-

Frequently asked questions
Yes. Records are one of the most common reasons NHS practices come to ARC. We start with secure offsite storage, which reclaims the space your records room takes up, and provide a clear pathway to full digitisation of your Lloyd George records when ICB funding allows. Digitisation is delivered through our partner Crown Information Management, aligned to the NHS England processing specification, with ARC as your single point of contact throughout. Where needed, we can also discuss retention, maximum storage and maximum storage duration requirements as part of the assessment.
Faster than most practices expect. Because offsite storage is the immediate first step, your records room can typically be cleared within weeks, not the months that full digitisation can take. We start with a free records assessment to confirm volumes, timelines and expected duration, then arrange secure collection around your clinical schedule. Nothing moves until you've approved the plan.
Yes. ARC provides fully managed print built around a busy practice, so prescriptions, patient letters and everyday documents keep moving. We monitor devices proactively, manage consumables automatically so you are not chasing toner, and provide SLA-backed technical support from a support engineer if something does fail. Our print service is Brother-primary, with Ricoh for higher-volume A3 needs, and is available through G-Cloud.
Yes. ARC’s NHS IT support services operate through a co-managed model with a clear RACI, so responsibilities are agreed from day one and nothing falls through the gaps. We take the day-to-day monitoring and management burden off your internal IT lead rather than replacing their role, so they can focus on higher-priority work. Where you use an external IT provider, we work alongside them without conflict, with access to an IT engineer, senior IT engineer or IT integration engineer when the work needs deeper technical input.
ARC’s NHS IT support services also include cyber security focused on the people and logins attackers target first. That includes email and phishing protection, staff awareness training, and independent Microsoft 365 backup, so a single compromised account is far less likely to disrupt the practice. Where monitoring detects something, ARC advises on exactly what to do next in plain English, and your team stays in control of any changes. For practices that want fuller protection across devices, networks, IT services and the wider IT system, our wider security services are covered on our Secure pages.
Yes. ARC’s NHS IT support services are listed on G-Cloud, the UK government's approved procurement framework for public sector IT. NHS practices, ICBs and other NHS organisations can award services directly under G-Cloud, with no separate tender required. We'll help you understand the options and the best route for your organisation.
